A Model for Downtown Trees – Trees Please in the Free Press
It’s official! The City of Winnipeg intends to apply for funding under the new federal Natural Infrastructure Plan (NIF) to boost tree planting along the iconic Broadway corridor downtown.
Our coalition advocated for the creation of the NIF during the federal budget consultations this past winter, and we are thrilled to see the city pursue funding to support natural infrastructure.
See our comments in the October 15, 2021 edition of the Winnipeg Free Press: City seeks green for Broadway trees.
“… it could create a model to add trees throughout the city centre. ‘
You picture the trees when you think of Broadway but, (in) the rest of the downtown, there’s so much concrete and so little green space… this could be great if they’re going to start to revitalize the canopy in this area.’ “
