Winnipeg Launches “Home Grown” Community Tree Planting Grants!
Fantastic news! Yesterday, the City of Winnipeg launched its first community tree planting grant program, “Home Grown”. The funding is made available through the federal government’s 2 Billion Trees program. Over the course of 5 years, it’s anticipated that more than 70,000 trees will be planted through the Home Grown program. Priority will be given to underserved neighbourhoods and those with higher levels of poverty.
With the support of Nature Canada, this is something that our coalition has been lobbying hard for, so we are delighted to see it come to fruition. With the crisis in our urban canopy, we need all hands on deck to help reforest our streets, parks and natural spaces!
Groups can receive up to $20,000 for planting and the deadline to apply for the 2023 program is March 1, 2023, so don’t delay! See the link below for all the details.
